Please feel free to cut/paste as desired! Your very own "Why you have disappointed me" template. Just pick the item from each parenthetical list that best suits your needs.
I write this with a heavy heart.
In the entire (four decades or six years or three months) that I have followed politics, I have never been so disappointed with a president as I am with you. I am quite sure that (Lincoln or FDR or LBJ) would never have had these problems. He was a man whose (strength of character or strategical brilliance or inherent toughness) allowed him to get what he wanted. Unlike you, you spineless twit.
More below the fold
When you told me that you stood for Hope and Change, I believed you. My disappointment knows no bounds. I know that you said the road would be long and hard, but here it is one year into your first term, and you have not allowed me to check off nearly enough items on my list to win my round of HopeandChange bingo.
When you said the road would be long, I did not envision it taking more than an entire year.
You have accomplished nothing, nothing that you promised. Oh, I know the economy was on the verge of total collapse when you took office, but that was no excuse to not make DADT your first priority. If you have not accomplished it within your first year, I am convinced you will not accomplish it at all. So convinced, in fact, that I can assure you right now I will not be able to campaign for you in 2012.
It is as my (friends or coworkers or fellow bloggers) warned me 2 years ago: you are too (naive or polite or surrounded by corporatists) to effect real change. I really wish I had voted for (Hillary Clinton or Ron Paul or Mike Gravel) like my brother suggested. Surely had I done so, everything would be better and the unicorns would all be happy again.
You have accomplished nothing that matters to me at all. People may publish long lists of things you have actually accomplished, but what are facts? They are not important. I am quite certain that if I spent more time championing what you have done, it would not make any difference at all in the mood of "the base."
When Republicans say you are weak or spineless or unable to lead, they do it out of political spite and it hurts our candidate. But when I say you are weak or spineless or unable to lead, I do it with love and the real belief that it will make you a stronger leader, better able to accomplish what I believed you promised to accomplish, and in a time frame that suits my own personal needs.
And if you feel that perhaps the fact that "liberal" commentators (on television or on the internet or in letters to the editor) have done little except criticize you from the moment you took office might have anything to do with the fact that the base is disheartened, you are wrong. Because when we want to see it that way, we feel that what we say matters and influences public opinion. And when we want to have a good year-long moan, we feel that what we say cannot possibly have any impact on public opinion and it's all your fault.
Inheriting the worst recession in 30 years, and the resulting high unemployment, is no excuse for public approval ratings of right around 50 percent. After all, that means that at least 5% of the population voted for you and no longer approves of what you are doing. Clearly, your numbers have tanked because of (not repealing DADT or not threatening to veto hcr without a public option or RAHHHMMM).
Sincerely,
A disappointed voter.
