While the orange hue of fascism hangs over our country and our public lands are set up to go to the highest bidder, President Trump signed executive orders to push through the Dakota Access Pipeline. Activists in Seattle, Washington are pushing for the city to divest from Wells Fargo Bank to the tune of around $3 billion, in a show of solidarity with #NoDAPL.
A proposal to pull about $3 billion in city of Seattle money out of Wells Fargo to protest the bank’s role as a lender for the Dakota Access Pipeline will be heard by a committee of the Seattle City Council on Wednesday.
The bill, co-sponsored by council members Kshama Sawant and Tim Burgess, will be heard at 9 a.m. before the Affordable Housing, Neighborhoods and Finance Committee. Anti-pipeline demonstrators will rally at City Hall at 8:30 a.m.
And the hearing is going on as we speak. With these demands from “Injustice Boycott”:
Seattle City Council committee will vote to divest and cancel $3 Billion contract with Wells Fargo for investing in the Dakota Access Pipeline.
If they pass this today, it will go to a full city council vote on Feb. 6th.
Seattle will be the first city in the country to cut ties with DAPL & wellfargo!!
In light of Trump's executive order, we need every city in the country to divest!
We have to put monetary sanctions on institutions that profit off destroying the earth, exploiting people, criminalizing the poor people, and perpetuating state violence.
Seattle should be proud of these Americans.
