McCain counter-slogan idea: "Country *club* first."

Mon Aug 11, 2008 at 09:54:11 AM PDT

In the spirit of the new, more aggressive (in the good sense of the term) Dem/Obama adds being discussed today, I came up with a slogan of my own, which I think would be really effective and kill McCain's "Country First" theme, which we all know is really about pointing out Barak's "otherness", pushing the idea that he's not one of us.

I'd love to see Barak and the Dems use it:  "McCain: Country club first."

Bush Lies: 'We Do Not Torture'

Mon Nov 07, 2005 at 09:47:10 AM PDT

Today, Bush lies again to the world and to Americans.

Quote from the AP:

http://news.yahoo.com/...

"Our country is at war and our government has the obligation to protect the American people," Bush said. "Any activity we conduct is within the law. We do not torture."

Mr. Bush, why did pick Miers ahead of Alito?

Mon Oct 31, 2005 at 07:21:23 AM PDT

Short diary, shoot me, but I'd be interested in the answer to this question.

Bush and McLellan said a number of times that Miers was the best candidate avaialable at the time she was nominated. Alito was an option back then, so I'd like a member of the press/media to ask why Miers was picked over Alito originally when all the options were on the table.  What specifically made her more qualified?

DailyArmando

In my opinion, too many of Armando's contributions to dKos are making the site unappealing and almost suffocating to me.  I think his front page privs should be revoked, plain and simple.

I don't have a problem with his opinions or views.  Diversity of opinion is what it's all about, I've learned a lot from posters in this community, and I've changed personal opinions on certain matters in some cases.  My issue is that his posts are self-centered, self-serving, repetitive.  His tone is often aggressive and unpleasant.

In short, I think Armando is a dick.

The Red Sox and the Lunar Eclipse: I love it!

Wed Oct 27, 2004 at 12:40:08 PM PDT

I LOVE IT!!!

Most of you know that Game 4 of the World Series is tonight, but some of you may not know that a cool, calm and collected astronomical phenomenon will occur during the game: a lunar eclipse.

Wapo has the details...

The period of totality -- when the moon will be completely within the Earth's shadow -- will begin at 10:23 p.m. Eastern time and end at 11:45 p.m., according to a Web site maintained by Fred Espenak of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. The eclipse will reach totality about 11 p.m.

Coincidence? Nah... this was meant to be.  I can already see Manny homering a grand-daddy-slam as the moon disappears from the sky...

As a Bostonian, well aware of the oft-cited end-times that will follow a Boston victory in the World Series, , I can't help but love it...

My friends, tonight, the Red Sox win the series and Boston is cursed no more...

It's just meant to be... don't miss it, or you'll regret it for ever!!!

GO SOX!

Remember the OFS???

Fri Oct 08, 2004 at 11:18:36 AM PDT

The Office of Special Plans (OFS) was instigated by Don Rumsfeld at the beginning of the Bush Administration.  It's role was essentially to fabricate and disseminate dissinformation to further the United States goals in the the world.  Yeah... scary stuff.

Anyway, I have no doubt, as evidenced by the recent story about US school data found on a hard drive in Baghdad, that the OFS is alive and well and behind the Bush administration's latest misuse of government and abuse of public trust to scare the American people and advance is electoral agenda.

Another Iraq Bombshell? (oops, guess not)

Thu Sep 23, 2004 at 12:10:19 PM PDT

I just finished reading through today's fascinating Bush/Allawi press briefing.

Towards the bottom, I found this little gem:

Bush:

"The prime minister said something very interesting a while ago and it's important for the American people to understand. Our strategy is to help the Iraqis help themselves. It's important that we train Iraqi troops. There are nearly 100,000 troops trained.

The Afghan national army is a part of the army.

By the way, it's the Afghan national army that went into Najaf and did the work there."

So, let me get this straight. Afghanistan is trying to emmerge from decades of chaos, and struggling to gain a semblance of stability, and we are cyphoning the little security resources they have into Iraq"?

It's tragic enough that we stupidly diverted US resources and personel from the fight against Ossama Bin Laden and Al Quaida in Afghanistan (remember, the real ennemy?) to Iraq, but we even borrow Afghan troops who have much to do at home? And chimpy-boy is proud of it?

By the way, do you know why we have to borrow Afghan troops? Because our incompetent "commander in chief" is incapable of bringing in Arab or regional allies to help us out on the ground... so we plunder the poor Afghans who've got their own problems at home to deal with. Leadership my ass.

If this is not emblematic of how screwed up our priorities are, and of Bush's utter lack of leadership, I really don't know what it.

It just blows the mind...

B/C '04 blatantly coordinating with 527?

Wed Sep 22, 2004 at 08:42:12 AM PDT

Or is this purely a coincidence?

If I'm understanding this correctly, the official compaign and a 527 release an ad on the same day with the same message??

What's the deal?

From today's Note:

REPUBLICANS RELEASE 2 ADS ON SAME DAY WITH KERRY WINDSURFING VIDEO: Bush-Cheney 04 releases "Windsurfing: "John Kerry. Whichever way the wind blows."

TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG

Wed Sep 15, 2004 at 05:50:13 AM PDT

TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG, TANG...
TANG 24/7..
TANG on DailyKos.
TANG on Eschaton
TANG on TPM.
TANG on WashingtonMonthly.
TANG coming out of my ears.
TANG, TANG, TANG...
TANG on the CBS evening news.
TANG on ABC, NBC..
TANG in DNC ads...
Did someone just pour a barrel of TANG on me? cause I sure feel covered in TANG.

TANG is an obsession.  It's serious problem and is going to cost dearly us if we don't put an end to it now.

  1. It's irrelevant
  2. It's ineffective
  3. It's distracting
  4. It's annoying
  5. It's counterproductive
  6. It's the least of our problems
  7. It's the least of the World's problems
  8. It's a waste of enegery
  9. Uh, did I mention it was 30 years ago?

TANG is a black hole. Even if TANG is 1 in 10 stories, it's too much TANG. Any TANG is too much TANG.

It's red-meat to the media, and takes away precious coverage from the real campain issues. It ignites rightwing passions and dirty politics depresses the swing-vote. There's nothing in it for us.

TANG is a dead-end, and the more we go down that path, the longer it'll take to backtrack and return to the real debate.

We're trying to knock down their guy, while there's still work to do on building our case. I can't believe this is happening and all the good hard work done in these parts in in the past months, all the good work done by JK is slowly being nullified by this TANG addiction. This sucks.

Kudos to RNC: Mission Accomplished

Thu Sep 02, 2004 at 08:18:06 AM PDT

Yep. It had to be said. One of the goals of presidential nomination conventions is to energize and solidify the base.  Get the troops pumped for the big fight, and focus the believers' energies for the last crucial stretch.

This diary is in recognition of a task well done.  They've done a masterful job. Mega-kudos to them.  Zell and Dick were perfect last night.

I've never felt so pumped about beating the shit out of Bush/Cheney in November.

If there is only 1 demonstration I can attend in NYC, which one should it be?

Wed Aug 25, 2004 at 08:09:08 AM PDT

I want to attend a demonstration in NYC during the RNC Convention week, but I'm not familiar with the demonstration/events schedule.

I'd like to attend the mother of all demonstrations, assuming there is one planned.

Does anyone know which one will be the BIG one? Details & links much appreciated.

Kerry: We've got better hair (with POLL)

Wed Jul 07, 2004 at 01:26:42 PM PDT

Kerry jokingly promoted the superiority of his and Edwards' hair (link)

Jul 7, 1:34 PM (ET)

By LIZ SIDOTI

CLEVELAND (AP) - An upbeat John Kerry campaigned for the first time with running mate John Edwards on Wednesday and boasted that the Democratic team has a "better vision, better ideas" than its Republican counterpart - and joked, "we've got better hair."

Now, this was obviously just a joke, but could the 'thugs turn this (pretty lame) joke into a blunder of significant proportion?

Drudge has already picked it up, and I held my nose and went over to freeperland and they're all over it. Apparently, this is already all over talk radio (that's what they claim), and I can already see Tweety and the mindless talking heads hammering this line day-in and day-out.

So, has JFK unencessarily shot himself in the foot?  Can he afford this sort of humour in our macho/war-oriented political discourse/culture? Will this be to Kerry, what the "I invented the internet" line was to Gore? Does this cast a light-weight/unserious aura over the Johns?
