One Nation Working Together is the kind of march I've been wanting to see for years. The list of endorsing organizations is truly amazing, and the event itself offers a great chance to make our voices heard and our faces seen. I hope everyone who can go, will go. Those of who can't are counting on you to stand in for us, too, so raise a fist every now and again for a Kossack back at home, will ya? For those of you haven't heard anything about it, the march is happening this Saturday, 10.2., at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. Get a-move-on!
Unfortunately, there is still work to be done. It has been brought to our attention that the organizers have yet to fully include Native Americans in the program. But there is still time to correct this. Kossack cacamp, aka Carter Camp of American Indian Movement (AIM) Oklahoma, and others from Native American Netroots have requested your help to make meaningful Native American participation and inclusion in ONWT a reality. Carter's message is below the fold.
Native America still ignored by One Nation Working Together
I've been told that the earlier recc listed diary(mother ship) which said my organization the American Indian Movement (AIM) had been included as a sponsor left an incorrect impression and because I wasn't online today it wasn't corrected.
Whoever wrote the diary apprently took the news out of an email I posted from One Nation saying AIM is a sponsor, however the diary failed to include the followup request from me about the meaningful inclusion of Native America and our issues and concerns as a people. In fact the organizers have ignored our calls and emails about our concerns and our repeated attempts to communicate and offer our assistance and support.
As Meteor Blades said this exclusion of our people by so called progressives is disgraceful and demeaning.
So we still at this late date need our brother and sister kossacks to help us by calling the organizers and major sponsors of the march to ask why we have been left out and requesting that we be included. Americas native people should not be sidelined and ignored. I know it late in the game but calls to your local Union, NAACP and Environmental organization would greatly help us redress this issue. And please remember; we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who are planning this great march and gathering.
Thank you all, Carter Camp (Ponca Nation, AIM).
I hope everyone reading will take a moment to call their sponsoring organization and/or the ONWT organizers to let them know that exclusion of Native Americans in ONWT is unacceptable. It is not too late. Please call now.
And another call to action comes from mistersite, who reminds us in his excellent action diary that residents of Washington, D.C., are still disenfranchised. Mistersite and all DC residents deserve your help - rec his diary, contact ONWT organizers, call your senators, representatives, and the White House. 600,000 Americans (mostly Democrats!) do not have representation in congress - help!
Please rec/tip so others can see this throughout the day/evening. Thank you all for helping to spread the word. You have truly made a difference. If you haven't heard yet, War on Error and BarkingCat have press passes to the event, a fitting reward for all their efforts to keep this march on the Daily Kos radar. I would also like to express a hearty thanks to DiegoUK, whose sponsoring efforts were a huge success, and to newbyblogger & Hopeful who have offered accommodation to many Kossacks (and may still have room for more). Well done!
From what we have read here, there will be a LOT of Kossacks there on Saturday. Some of traveling from Washington state, California, Utah, England, Germany, and all the states within 12 hours of DC. If you cannot attend the march in DC, please consider making your voice heard at a local event.
Kossack Meet-ups
Friday night (and maybe Saturday) we will meet at Union Station. Hop the Red line. We are going to meet between 6 and 9 pm at a place called The Center Cafe in the Main Hall.
Pics and details here in FrankCornish's diary.
On Saturday, Kossacks plan to meet at the Rally on the left side of the reflection pool as you face the Lincoln Memorial. Look for those wearing orange. I am hoping someone is bringing a tall sign or a big orange flag - finding each other in a sea of people may not be easy.
