Monday
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
I'm back! It was a long trip, and I accomplished three things.
One - I helped enter insurance claims (not process them, just data entry), then inventoried donations to West. I didn't go to West - what I could do could be done remotely and no sense being a ghoul.
I distributed bookmarks and posters about OctopodiCon.
And I did a small bit of shopping - spent $20 I shouldn't have on vinegar and oil and Vegemite. There's a British Emporium in Grapevine, TX, and I wanted to spend quite a bit more money, but all I had was $20. I also went to Sam Moon's and browsed a bit, then to World Market for a lookie-loo. I didn't spend anything at either place. I also went to a nursery to help my sister pick out some plants for her front yard - they had a wine and cheese tasting going on. It was cream goat cheese with different flavors and wine from a local vineyard. I made the mistake of sampling a cheese with chipotle just before sipping a bit of wine. Hot!
Here are pics of Itzl and Xoco as we were getting ready to leave:
I hope you all had a good weekend.
